“I will be jealous for My Name is Holy.” Ezekiel 39: 25
Advent is a Latin word meaning “coming”. Jesus is coming, Christmas is coming and Jesus is jealous for you to welcome Him, for your attention, for your heart, for your soul, and for your mind. Jesus is jealous for your good and for God’s glory too.
Exodus 34:14 says, “You must worship no other gods, for the LORD, whose very Name is jealous, is a God who is jealous about his relationship with you.”
Exodus reminds us, “You must not bow down to them or worship them, for I, the LORD your God am a jealous God who will not tolerate your affection for any other gods.”
Deuteronomy 4:15-24 reminds us, “For the LORD your God is a consuming fire, a jealous God.” If Jesus is coming, consider what you will do with Him. Is there something in your life that is in His way?
Consider this, “Take care, lest you forget the covenant of the LORD your God, which he made with you, and make a carved image, the form of anything that the LORD your God has forbidden you.” Deuteronomy 4:23
Jesus wants to bless His own children who have promised to welcome Him. He is Emmanuel. He takes our welcome invitation very seriously and personally. When we welcome Jesus, He makes Himself at home with us just like He did in Noah’s ark, in the ark of the covenant, in Solomon’s Temple, in the furnace with Daniel, in Joseph and Mary’s manger, and in the disciple’s upper room through the tongues of fire. We have the choice to welcome Him or not and when we do not welcome Him, but put other gods before Him, we break His heart. God spoke to His prophet Ezekiel heartbroken over His disobedient Israel in Ezekiel 5:13, “Thus shall my anger spend itself and I will vent my fury upon them and satisfy myself. And they shall know that I am the LORD-that I have spoken in my jealousy-when I spend my fury upon them.”
Bottom line are these words from the LORD GOD in Ezekiel 39:25, “I will be jealous for My Name is Holy.”
We have a choice every day to be welcoming to God, God is jealous for you for your own good, and at Christmas time, Jesus is coming, so get ready! We can celebrate being at home with Him. Jesus is with us, Emmanuel!
