WIP: Ram in the thicket
The imprecatory Psalms have been very real to me for the past few weeks. Abraham is one of my favorite characters from the Bible because God called him “friend” (Isaiah 41:8 and James 2:23). I also really loved how Abraham pleaded for the life of Sodom and Gomorrah in Gen 18-19 (this we will talk about another time). But praying through the imprecatory Psalms made me appreciate David’s openness with God.
Truly, what a friend I have in my Jesus, my Creator. I can pour out ALL my emotion before God, knowing my GOd is a God who sees (remember Hagar?), my GOd is the one who walks on water when we are afraid and struggling ( Mathew 14:22-33), and my GOd reaches out a hand to pull me out when I am sinking. This friend can hold all my emotions and knows my heart even as I pray through the imprecatory psalms, looking for a ram (my ram has a name!! at least for now, as I process my emotions).
Whatever your emotion, take it to the Lord in prayer.
