Happy pongal!

South India celebrates a harvest festival every January. The festival includes celebrations and prayers. I thank my Almighty God for His hand of provision. I am in awe of my Creator God who made the sun to help the crops grow, the maker of the animals who helped in the farming process and provides nutrients for the body. Truly an amazing Creator.

This doodle is a prayer over South India during this season of Pongal. I started drawing a “kolam” (a hand drawing using chalk or traditionally rice flour at the entrance of the house) on paper. I began to thank God for the sun, for the flowers of the field, for the grain – god’s provision in my life. I began to think of the different ways pongal is celebrated in south India. In this doodle (Warli – Indian folk art) people are dancing together over the harvest, dancing and rejoicing over God’s provision. The plants on either side of the kolam represent sugar cane which is in season during this time and grains to depict the harvest.
