The Covenant

This ink design is inspired by Judges 2:1-2

The meditation on these verses and ‘the covenant’ itself led to the different expressions/reminders recorded in the Bible. Using simple lines and repetitive patterns the Tree of Life recorded in Genesis 2 is found on the left of the image. This is one of the earliest expressions of God’s love for us. In spite of our sin God always finds a way for us to dwell with Him forever. This same fruit is served to those of us who overcome (Revelation 2:7). Beneath the Tree of Life is the rainbow which is a sign of God’s covenant with us (Genesis 9:13). God ratifies His covenant with Abraham in Genesis 15. This is represented by the flames seen behind the hands. The flaming torch and the fuming firepot make the covenant between God and man. This flame also represents the Holy Spirit who helps us.The Chalice and Bread that is represented on the right is representative of the Passover and particularly Jesus as the body and blood broken and sacrificed for us. The 3 figures walking together is a depiction of the resurrected Jesus walking with His disciples/us. Finally, the main element or the central element is the two hands. This is a simple representation of ‘the making of a deal;- a modern covenant.

This is the covenant that God refers to in the book of Judges. The covenant that we His people broke time and again. And time and again God makes a way for us to keep our end of the covenant.37958676_1657016884424141_4571037430030794752_n
